Bay View Gallery Night

Notes on the work, from the artist:
The watercolor series of busts was inspired by statuary I have seen and some from ancient sculpture. I see them as a combination of old and new, combining images of flowers and in some cases images of glass sculpture inspired by Chihuly. Another series of watercolors are those I think of as “Tangles”. These refer to the difficult, challenging times and relationships that we all have in our lives. The tangles and life can still be beautiful and fulfilling as we work to carefully loosen the knots and care for and smooth the situations and relationships. Often gems of joy are found amid
the tangles when we least expect it. Some of the paintings are inspired by water and waves. Our beloved Lake Michigan is
often a subject, but I also draw from beaches and oceans I have photographed as I travel. This theme is important to me in that water is extremely powerful and can be deadly while at the same time is calming and soothing. It demands respect as it sustains us.

About the Artist: As a recently retired Montessori teacher who started my career as an art teacher, I have always been interested in creating visual art and enjoying expressive experiences and activities. As I begin on a new path, I am relaxing into art making in a playful way, following what is interesting and enjoyable to me. I love bright colors and contrast. I take inspiration from photos taken on my travels, life experiences, objects of art, gardens and the natural world.
